Style: The Eccentric Jalan (juh-lan) Harris

I had the pleasure of talking to who I can describe as a woman of Great Spirit and immense aura. She is from the Bahamas, free port to be exact. Her photos speak words without voice and her style whispers almost seductively in your sub conscious. It is hard to gaze on her and not feel the need to speak.

Fondly called Juno by many, she is loved is in a way so pure, a way so puzzling but with so much clarity. Clarity gained when you look at her images more as a gate to her soul and inner ambition.

In Ancient Roman Mythology Juno was an ancient Roman goddess, the protector and special counselor of the state. She is a daughter of Saturn and sister (but also the wife) of the chief god Jupiter and the mother of Mars and Vulcan. Her Greek equivalent isHera.

As the patron goddess of Rome and the Roman Empire she was called Regina (“queen”) and, together with Jupiter and Minerva, was worshipped as a triad on the Capitol in Rome. Juno’s own warlike aspect among the Romans is apparent in her attire. She often appeared armed and wearing a goatskin cloak, which was the garment favored by Roman soldiers on campaign.

In literature Juno is mentioned in The Tempest in Act IV, Scene I. In this, she relates to Prospero as they are both leaders in their realm and have spirit like messengers who are very loyal (Juno has Iris, Prospero has Ariel). William Shakespeare repeatedly mentions Juno throughout the play Antony and Cleopatra, often in forms of exclamation by the characters.

On a final note, prose from the woman herself…

watch me as i break the world around you.
these dreams as fresh as a newborn
my body trembles with sharp recognition
this, this place is where i need to be
my place to breathe
it doesn’t matter who you are
but i wish to indulge in you
i can’t say that i know your name
but i already know you
i wish to be the vice of you
something you honestly can’t rid yourself of.
i wish to infect you
like the bitter disease that once plagued me

but one hard hit and it all seems fine
the heat that inebriates me i’ve never felt before
i crumble in silence
and i lose myself in the darkness
with your head up in the clouds
and your fingers twined,
broken in my hair
i give you sweet release

i replay you to keep my mind alive
aroused.
Submersion into your skin only leaves me
dumb and numb
and helpless in your sea
i thrash and kick with no sense of direction
but your warm waves surround me
