News: Doggext Set To Drop Mixtape
Jamiu Bolarinwa also known as Doggext is a Nigerian hip-hop artist based in Boston, Massachusetts. Born on August 16, 1982, Doggext was raised in Mushin, Nigeria. He started his music career in 1998 at his alma mater, Ansar Ud Deen College in Lagos, Nigeria, performing primarily at social night events on campus. While at Ansar, he was given the nickname Snoopy. However, at the same time, rapper DMX was an artist whose style and intensity he thoroughly enjoyed so he consequently created his own alter ego “DoggX” which was written as such to retain the “Dogg” in Snoop Doggy Dogg as well as to incorporate his newfound interest in the rapper DMX, but in late 1999, he made one last modification to the name, changing it from “DoggX” to “Doggext”.
Doggext’s lyrics are grounded in his perception of life, his milieu, and his jokes. He is often comical but never fails to drive his point home. Also, the manner in which he fuses American English with Yoruba—one of the main languages in Nigeria—keeps his flow diverse and his audience entertained and this style has earned him numerous comparison to the late Nigerian rapper, Dagrin. Although their lyrical content are not similar, both artists represent Mushin with their music.
In 2002, Doggext relocated to the United States where he continued composing, recording, and performing for various audiences. He is currently in the studio working with different artists from United Kingdom, United States and also Nigeria. He has teamed up with artists on SwanBallaz Records to record some tracks that were recently illustrated in the mixtape ‘SwaggaKings presents Jacking for Beats. Doggext has collaborated with EMX on recently released track If You Know and also R & B artist Duncan Daniels on Do Me. In December 2010, the video for his hit track, Holla @ Me Freestyle premiered on various digital platforms of music and entertainment blogs including Notjustok.com, Amebor.com and of course, yours’ truly. The freestyle track was also included in the D.J Kobe Presents Omo Mushin Mixtape which is set to drop on April 1st, 2011 at an exclusive red carpet affair at the Caprice Ultra Lounge, 275 Tremont street, Boston.
You can listen to one of the tracks on the mixtape below. It’s a remix to Wiz Khalifa’s Black and Yellow.
