This week on Gbedu ThrowBack, we’re bringing back a legend in Nigerian music industry. The man who we can safely say was one of the poinners of Nigerian Reggae.

We all know him as Daddy Showkey!

Real name John Odafe Asiemo, came from the streets of the popular city of Ajegunle. The man had been through almost everything in life, the good and bad. He has been an acrobat, gotten into boxing, danced (well, still did in his videos), and then finally singing. He was affiliated with a group called “Sexy Pretty Boys” which he was with for a while before going solo. His First album “Ghetto Soldier“, came out 1993, along with his unique style of dance called Galala, which won him recognition all over the nation, putting him on the map as a true musical icon. Everybody was, and still does that dance! Then in 1998, he dropped the second album, “The Name“, which went platinum in after 4 months of release! The album includes the hit single Dyna, which was a phenomenal hit! And ever since it was a rise to stardom withstanding every obstacle that came his way. The name “Daddy Showkey” is definitely a house hold name among every Nigerian who enjoys good dance music.

He really isn’t a “major” buzz now, but this Ghetto Soldier still goes around doing a lot of shows around the world keeping himself relevant. And here, Gbedu Throwback brings to you the hit song Dyna.
